Frequently Asked Questions

This section is where you will (hopefully) find the answers to any questions you might have about booking a session and what to expect from a session, as well as some general questions.  If you have already scheduled a session, you will receive a Welcome Packet that goes into more detail about the specifics of your session.

How do we schedule a session with Emily & Nate?

If you haven’t done so yet, please fill out our contact form located in the Contact Us tab.

For Weddings, we feel it is important to connect with the couple that we photograph.  The worst injustice you could do for your wedding day is book a photographer that you do not feel a connection with.  Which is why we don’t actually book every wedding that comes our way.  It is so much more fun for both you and us if we are friends:).  That is one of the many reasons we have the best clients EVER!

If you are wanting to book a family, senior, or baby session you should know that we only take a limited number of session per month.  So please call or email us at least a month in advance to schedule your session.

Where will you take our photographs?

We have a variety of locations that we love to photograph family, senior, and engagement sessions.  However, we usually let you decide where you would like to have your photos taken.  Whether you want to be photographed at the baseball diamond where you met, the field near your home where you have picnics in the summer, or just at the studio because it is really cold;)– there are many possibilities for locations.

What should we wear to our session?

  • The first thing I tell our clients is it is most important that they are comfortable.  You shouldn’t buy an outfit the day of without wearing it around the house for a while to make sure you feel confident in the outfit.
  • Avoid matchy-matchy.  If you have everyone wear blue, the shades will, most likely not look the same in the finished product.  Try wearing complimentary colors (example: brown and mauve, blue and tan).

We do offer a clothing consultation for family, senior and engagement portraits.  One of our awesome stylists will either help you pick out clothes from your existing wardrobe or go shopping with you to buy a new outfit for the occasion.  Contact us for more information.

About how many images will we have to choose from after the session?

On average, you will have 30-60 images from a family session, 40-80 for a senior session, 75-90 for an engagement session, and 500-1200 from your wedding day.

How will we view our pictures after the session?

We place all of our images in an online gallery for you to share with friends and family. However, you do have the option of meeting with us to view your images in a large, color perfect format at our office.  We encourage one-on-one sessions so that you may see your pictures the way they will actually look printed.  Not all computer screens are created equal and, most of the time, your images will not look the same as they will printed.

We are so excited to see our pictures. How long will it take to see them and get prints made?

Two to three days after your session, I will place a sneak peek of your session on our blogsite.  On the rare occasion that I don’t have time to post on the blogsite, I will tag you in three to four images on Facebook (this will be more common during the busy wedding season).

Two weeks after your session, you will receive a link to an online proofing gallery (please see the Proof vs. Prints page).  Then, you will create a favorites folder of images that you would potentially like to be printed.  One week after you have created your favorites folder you will either meet us for a one-on-one session, or be sent a link to your online proofing gallery to view the print ready images.

After you have finalized your print order, your images will be sent to a professional lab.  Processing and shipping can take up to two weeks if shipped to our office and three weeks if they are sent to your home.

We would love to keep a copy of the digital images for our family records.  How can we obtain a copy?

There are two ways to obtain the digital copies of your session.  The first is to purchase them for a flat rate of 500 dollars (there is no minimum or maximum amount of images you can have on your disk).  The second way is to be given the disk with a minimum print order of 800 dollars.  The print order does not have to be made by just you, it includes prints purchased by family and friends from that particular session.  (Example: if your parents and grandparents purchase images from your session, it counts toward the 800-dollar minimum).

Why do we have to purchase the digital copies?

We get this question a lot and I don’t mind answering it.  When we were first starting our business we gave a CD of the images free with every session.  Soon, I noticed a trend; our clients would never get prints made.  Life is busy and they would forget.  Also, there is far more emotional attachment to a printed image than a CD of images.

Imagine for a moment that your house is on fire (something I have personally experienced). What would you grab?  The most common answer is pictures, not CDs of images* that are tucked away in obscure places.  Even though my house burned down when I was little, I still remember some of the pictures of me as a baby because I saw, touched and held the images in my hand.  Printed images are far more important than a disk of images.

*We do encourage archiving your photographs in a safe place away from your home.  We guarantee to keep your photos on file for one year.
